The Appledore & Instow Regatta has for over 130 years been a non-profit annual event established by local people for everyone to enjoy.
It's Committee are all local Volunteers who have a life long passion for the sea going back generations and annually raise money from competitors, local businesses and donations from individuals and families to host the Regatta for the enjoyment of everyone.
Everyone is welcome to take part in the variety of events and activities during the Regatta wherever possible and have fun.
A donation or small free maybe payable on some events on the day.

IMPORTANT NOTICE
As most events take place on the River Torridge between Appledore & Instow Villages, we advise participants to ensure they
1. Following instructions as provided before, during and after events by Event Coordinator or Announcements.
2. Are competent to participate in the event they entering, which may include being able to swim and tread water.
3. Are fit and healthy to participate in the event, as some events require high levels of endurance fitness for rowing.
4. Use appropriate safety equipment for the respective event.
5. Report any inappropriate behaviour to Regatta Staff which may endanger you or others around you.
Appledore RNLI and other safety boats are available during the Regatta Sunday and some, but not all, events.
Whilst every effort is made to advise below if entry into the water is required as part of the event, the advise below cannot be taken as an assurance and/or guarantee that entry into the water may or may not occur either intentionally or by accident.
Therefore please ensure you are aware of the risks when participating in events and are a competent swimmer.
RIVER TORRIDGE IS A TIDAL RIVER, HAS STRONG CURRENTS & UNDERCURRENTS, EVEN AT LOW TIDE... BE CAREFUL!

Gaf & Lug Sailing Boat Race

Entering the water is not required for this event.
This is a strenuous rowing event.
Greasy Pole
Open to Everyone - Free
Entering the water is required for this event - unless you can make it to the end of the pole and back to the pontoon.
Miller & Sweep Competition
Open to Everyone - Free
Entering the water is not required for this event.
Participants should wear clothes they don't mind getting covered in flour.
This is a strenuous rowing event.
Model Yacht Racing
Open to Everyone - £1 per boat per race or £10 to Cover all boats in all races
Participants are required to travel to the sand ridge in the middle of the River Torridge to launch Model Yachts.
'Setting off' Model Yachts requires entry into the water, possibly ankle to knee depth.
Open Salmon Boat Races

This event takes place on edge of the south side of Appledore Quay, Richmond Dock end of the Quay.
Please supervise Children at all times.
The Slipways can be slippery place, so be aware of the dangers/risks this presents.
Appledore Instow Ferry will be operating during this event loading/unloading passengers on the slipway, please keep clear.
